Customer Review: Not worth the money
I have owned a healthmate junior air purifier for a number of years now. Frankly I can say that it was not worth the money. I bought the filter due to the “warranty” on the main filter. What a joke! After getting a new filter 6 months ago the air coming out smells terrible. When I spoke to Austin Air they informed me that they would sell me a new filter for 50% off. Are you kidding me? I just replaced it and they are asking me to spend even more money with them??
Bottom line, there are MANY other higher rated air cleaners out there that cost much less money and that are more reliable. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this one.
Customer Review: Austin Air=Antiquated Air Filtration Technology
Austin Air Healthmate Jr is missing UV LIght to kill bacteria filtered from the air, ozone to kill airborne viruses and negative ion output. All it has is a medical grade HEPA filter. The filter will need to be replaced before the 5 years it is supposed to last and it will SMELL when the filter gets clogged. I did the research AFTER I bought a Healthmate Jr unfortunately. Also when you buy this bulky item, ask them about a restocking fee and return shipping. Buying and returning one could easily leave you $50-60 dollars poorer. There are better, more advanced, cheaper air filters out there. I now have 2 Multi-Tech 2 XJ3000D air filters and I love them!!

Works very well at filtering the air. this one was actually too powerful for my bedroom even at the lowest setting. There is a noticeable difference in the air when the Blueair is on. All speeds are very quiet except for the highest setting which is disproportionately louder than all the other settings. The product itself is very sturdy and well made. For anyone with allergies this is a great product that will no doubt make a difference.

While it’s difficult to directly measure the effect that this air filter is having on the environment with any degree of certainty without tools to measure air quality it certainly seems to me to be doing a good job. I wake up feeling better, and my sinuses have stopped giving me trouble. I’m able to breathe much better, and through both nostrils, consistently; it’s been so long since I could do that I’d forgotten what it was like. I believe I’m even sleeping better because of it. And it is QUIET, on the low setting I dare say silent. I kept looking at the blue light to be sure it was on. The only complaint: I got the activated carbon filter and, apparently during shipping, some of the black dust got into the container an left noticeable black marks on a few places on the outside of the filter case. I haven’t found any cleaner that will take them off yet, very stubborn. Oh, and the shipping was kind of slow.

Customer Review: Cleans well but kind of cheapy
This air purifier cleans the air well, and it’s easy to clean the permanent filter. One drawback, though, is that it seems cheapy. After a few days, it makes an annoying rubbing noise. I returned it for a replacement, which still had the same problem. So I put some sewing machine oil at the top and the bottom of the spinning electrostatic cylinder, and that fixed the noise! It makes a typical fan noise when running, though, but that can be expected.
Customer Review: Not quiet at all
We’ve had this purifier for a little over 12 months now. We clean it as recommended. About 4 months after we purchased it the fan developed a buzz when it is on. It has just got worse as time has passed. So much, in fact, that we have to place the unit on its side in order for the buzz to go away. Not sure how effective the unit is on it’s side, but it is in a small room so we are not asking it to purify a large area. It seems to be cleaning the air alright, but the durablity of the machine is its downfall. Look for something else.

After enduring burning, swelling and irritated eyes when I was in my house (particularly my office,) we feared we might have a serious indoor air quality problem in our home. We called our insurance company about air testing, we discussed ripping out all of the carpeting…then I decided to try a simple air purifier to see what happened.
Despite dusting, vacuuming, dusting, vacuuming, steam cleaning everything I could get my hands on, and HEPA filters on the HVAC system…….THIS air purifier still caught an unbelievable amount of particulates in the air.
